it is located on the highest part of the hill of Arezzo, near the Medici Fortress, from which it is separated from the "Prato". Because of its position and its imposing size, it is visible from every side. It was built following the design of Margaritone from the end of the thirteenth century, for the will of Guglielmino degli Ubertini, bishop of Arezzo. The bell tower, initially a sail, was built as a tower in 1858 and finally completed with a spire in 1935. The Gothic church houses precious works of art, such as the stained glass windows by Guglielmo da Marcillat, the "Maddalena" by Piero della Francesca, Sepulcher of the bishop Guido Tarlati (1276, Agostino di Giovanni and Agnolo di Ventura), the main altar to which Giovanni Pisano took part, as Giorgio Vasari claims. In the Cathedral there is the image of the Madonna del Conforto, patron saint of the city. Point 4: See the Map »
