Palio della Vittoria di Anghiari

June 29th. Reenactment that has its roots in 1440. On June 29 of that year, the Florentine army, allied with the pontiffs and the Venetian league on one side and the Milanese, on the other, faced each other in the Battle of Anghiari, made famous by Leonardo da Vinci who painted it in the Sala del Maggior Consiglio in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Every year, Anghiari celebrates the anniversary with the Palio della Vittoria. The event begins in the late afternoon when in Piazza Baldaccio gather armed bodies, musicians, figures and flag-wavers. The challenge consists of a 1,400-meter race, from the Cappella della Vittoria to Piazza Baldaccio, in which representatives of neighboring municipalities participate. In the prize there is, in fact, the prize that will decorate the winning municipality.
